Justin Tarrant – Sport Therapist / Sports Massage Therapist

Get to know our Sports massage therapist Justin:

Q: What made you choose Sports massage as a career?

A: Having been a high level athlete myself I wanted to continue to care and support for my physical health as well as the health of others, therefore I have progressed down this route as well as several other patient centred care Providing services

Q: University year qualified and work experience?

A: sports conditioning rehabilitation and massage first class honours degree from Cardiff Metropolitan University, graduating in 2019. Distinction masters of sports therapy completed in 2022 from the university of Gloucestershire

I am level 6 Sports massage association qualified, having worked across several sports including athletics, football, rugby, triathlon, running.

I have also worked with specific teams including Disability Sport Wales, providing training and also care for athletes of all ages

Most recently I have worked for CORA Health, the NHS Muscular skeletal provider in several different roles, with the most recent specialising in post operative paediatric patient care

Q: What do you love most about your job?

A: progression patients care to enable them to complete these sports activities in every day the life requirements that they need in their life.

Q: What’s your greatest achievement in your career?

A: I worked with the Wales Commonwealth athletics and para athletics team as a sports massage therapist

Q: Clinical special interests?

A: The particular area of the body that interests me the most is the lower limb, specifically the knee and ankle, with my ever expanding wealth of knowledge from the research helping provide more care and support specifically in running in populations. A course I  recently completed an online paediatric course, with the aim of supporting helping patients of any age to get back to the sporting activities that they love.

Q: What’s your favourite patient journey and why?

A: If I were to choose one in specific it would be in Achilles rupture patient I saw from high level athletic sport, Helping him get back to athletics and specifically the long jump post injury. If you want a deeper answer I would say myself having rehabbed several injuries through my different sporting careers, learning a lot about how I can further improve the quality of care for my patients.

Q: Top Pastimes?

A: Currently enjoying running cycling and swimming all individually- potential for future triathlon.

Q: Scariest thing you’ve done?

A: relocated and bought a house, moving away from family and familiarity

Q: Favourite Film?

A:  The gentleman

Q: One item to take to a desert island?

A: My dogs, for the company for the social aspect

Q: Favourite food?

A:  Pad Thai, – well to be honest any Thai food

Q: What do you do at the weekends?

A: I’m big into my home renovations DIY and very passionate about gardening.

A: Dynamic patience and care, with your needs put first and regular discussions on all the things that I enjoy and all the information I can pass onto from my training and career so far.
